Watch 97% Owned - the new documentary featuring Positive Money which reveals how money is at the root of our current social and economic crisis.

Positive Money supporters are organising meetups around the country to spread awareness of the need for fundamental reform of the monetary system.

You can organise a local meetup too, or get involved in one locally.

The goal is to give people who are interested in this issue an opportunity to find out more about the monetary system and how we could fix it. It’s also to everyone a chance to meet like minded people, share ideas, to discuss,  and later on possibly to set up a local campaign group which would act to promote constructive solutions to the financial crisis and the other probelms caused by the flawed monetary system.

These meetups can be pretty informal – just meeting up in a bar, for example – or might start with a video screening, depending on the number of people and if the people are already familiar with the subject or not.

1. Informal meetup of Positive Money supporters

The first option is to organize a meetup only for existing supporters of Positive Money to share ideas, discuss and plan a local campaign.

See this map to find out how many people are in your local postcode zone (and adjoining areas),

2. Public screening of videos with discussion

If you invite to the meetup people who are not familiar with Positive Money, we recommend to arrange a screening of our videos The Problem with the Banking System and  How to Fix the Banking System [links to download the high resolution versions are under the videos]. This can be a good way to start the discussion rolling afterwards.

Positive Money Speakers who attended our Speakers Training can decide to give a talk/ presentation instead of  video screening.

You can also decide to invite everyone to continue the discussion in the pub.

Important: Please make clear in your invitation what type of meetup you organize.

We will help you promote the meetup amongst Positive Money supporters who might be interested to attend the public screening too, or might be interested to come just to the pub afterwards.

Step-by-Step:

1.    Send us a short email

([email protected]) to say you want to organize a meetup. There might be already other people in your area who have already started or want to organize an event too.  We can put you in touch with each other.

2.    Find a convenient venue

It might be a bar, pub, café, park, office premises, lecture venue or any other space you consider right.

Make sure it’s not too crowded or too loud on the date you plan the meetup. If it’s in a bar, check there will be no football on the big screen etc.

3.    Reserve the venue

  • For how many people? This is always difficult to predict… If it’s a meetup of Positive Money supporters, we suggest to reserve for about 10-15% of the supporters in your area.
  • Make sure the date of the meetup will be at least 3 weeks away, so that we can invite people in advance.
  • Most pubs don’t require money for reserving a space. Try to find one that doesn’t, to avoid unnecessary costs.

4.    Let us know via email

Please send us the following details:

  • Where (address)
  • When (start time and date)
  • A link to a google map, or directions to the venue
  • Program
  • Any other details that are relevant
  • Let us know if you are happy for people to respond directly to you, via email. (They can respond to us if you do not want your email address to be shared)

Then we we will send an invitation to all people in your area.

We will also publish the event on our website and advertise it on Facebook, Meetup.com etc. We can also send the reminder emails two weeks / one week prior to the event.

5.    Invite your friends and anybody, who might be interested

Think about which group you want to invite, and try to make your invitation relevant to them. For example, is it the local Chamber of Commerce, local students union, Women’s Institute, or branch of Occupy?

6.    Follow the confirmations, answer the questions if any

We are looking forward to hear from you!
